Quadstepper Motor Driver Board
We purchased this Quadstepper Motor Driver Board from SparkFun Electronics. The board has four A4983 microstepping motor driver and can control up to 4 bipolar stepper motors with up to 1 Amp each, without heat sinks, or 2 Amps each, with heat sinks. +8V was supplied to the driver board by our custom power regulator board. The Bus header, on the far right in the image below, made it possible to control of all three of our stepper motors with only 5 IO pins. The board is capable of driving motors in full, half, quarter, eight, and sixteenth-step modes. We selected full-step mode for all of our motors by pulling all of the mode select (MS) lines low. To select 3.3V logic levels the jumper labeled '5V' was closed. Output 1 was used to control the motor responsible for translation of the platform in the x-direction (the direction parallel to the parking spot), output 2 controlled the motor used for translation in the y-direction, and output 3 controlled the motor that was used for rotation.
Below is a picture of the back of the board. The eight 'Bus Enable' jumpers along the left edge of the board were all closed to allow use of the Bus header.
